What is the Abitibi River Forest

In xxx, members of the Cochrane area's forest industry broke tradition when they put aside their competing interests on the land base and united to negotiate a New Business Relationship with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR).  This new arrangement would see the development of a private forest management company that, on behalf of its members (the Shareholders), would assume forest management responsibilities for the former Crown managed forests within the Kirkland Lake Administrative District.

Abitibi River Forest Management Inc. is a consortium of forest industries, ranging from small independent logging operators to large forest-products producers. In exchange for surrendering of their individual historical harvesting licenses, shares in this forest management cooperative were proportionally allocated and issued to xxx forest products producers and xxx independent logging operators.


Before the SFL was even officially in place, First Resource Management Group Inc. (FRMG) assumed responsibilities for forest management planning, forest renewal and maintenance, forest resource inventory collection and maintenance on behalf of Abitibi River Forest Management Inc..

The FRMG office is located on Highway No. 11, at Englehart, Ontario.

LONG-TERM FOREST MANAGEMENT PLANNING

Abitibi River Forest Management Inc. is responsible for the development and preparation of a 20-year strategic Forest Management Plan (FMP) for the Abitibi River Forest . In addition to outlining the strategic forest management direction, this document also contains an operational plan that details the road construction, harvesting, forest renewal and forest tending activities for the first five years of the planning horizon. FMP's must follow all Provincial laws, regulations and operating guidelines.
